Granada is one of the destinations most chosen by travelers to spend a weekend or a few days of getaway. It is a vibrant city that has many things to offer: an attractive nightlife and university life, a very interesting historical and monumental heritage and its gastronomy that is not far behind either. For us, these are the five things you don't have to miss on your excursion to the pearl of Sierra Nevada.
What to visit in Granada: five essentials (or the top five of the Travel Blog). - The Alhambra. It is a miniature city where the royal court and monarchs lived. The different buildings that we can visit today are the result of the different modifications that the multiple inhabitants of the Alhambra decided to carry out while occupying it. This process of evolution began in the 13th century and did not stop until 1957. Seven hundred years of history that hide a lot of secrets that are worth discovering. Surely the best known corner is the courtyard of the lions but each roof and each corner have a stone decoration that you cannot miss. - The Generalife. The Kings lived in the Alhambra but they also needed gardens where they could stroll, relax and enjoy nature. That is exactly the Generalife, a private garden with different walks, fountains and a lot of vegetation that a few hundred years ago was within the reach of a few but now we can all visit. - The Cathedral of Granada. It occupies the place that was once a mosque. It began as a Gothic architectural work, similar to the Cathedral of Toledo, to end as a sample of the Spanish Renaissance. If you want your visit to be interesting and remember it later, you can venture to look for the figures of the Catholic Monarchs, who pray inside the Cathedral. Will you be able to find them? Will you dare ask them to sponsor a trip to the Americas? - The neighborhoods of El Albaicn and Sacromonte. The Albaicín is a neighborhood a little removed from the center full of houses of the purest Andalusian style. The white colors, the alleys and some pieces of the old city wall predominate. We recommend visiting it at night because it is full of viewpoints from which you can enjoy night views that will especially delight those seeking a romantic trip to Granada. It is also worth enjoying a Moorish tea by candlelight in one of the premises with great charm. On the other hand, Sacromonte is surely the most musical neighborhood in the entire city. Essential for those who have a special interest in Spanish guitars and Andalusian cante. And if your skin does not bristle when listening to some bulerías, don't forget to visit the neighborhood: it is full of houses - caves where the gypsies used to live. Today the caves are very touristy places, turned into restaurants and shops. The rest of the city of Granada is very welcoming and allows many walks that are pleasant. We take advantage of the great tradition of tapas in its bars and restaurants and some days we dine only on the basis of the generous portions they give you for free when you order a soft drink or any other drink, such as an Alhambra beer
